Prescription Services

Remote support for prescription review and signing, delivered by clinical pharmacists who CDS describes as trained prescribers.

Overview

General practices spend significant time on prescription requests, renewals and signing. CDS provides a remote prescription workflow that follows the practice’s own medicines management and prescribing pathways.

Clinical responsibility for the practice’s prescribing pathways remains with the practice. CDS pharmacists review and sign prescriptions within those agreed pathways. This page does not describe an open-ended prescribing authority beyond that arrangement.

How the service works

  1. The practice provides remote access to the clinical system, in the same way remote access may be given to its own clinicians.
  2. A clinical pharmacist reviews each prescription for accuracy and for fit with the practice pathway.
  3. Signed prescriptions are returned with the aim of a prompt turnaround. A guaranteed time is not stated here.
  4. The workflow stays inside the practice’s existing management system.
